Canon Barnett: Celebrating a social pioneer

In the summer of 2013, Toynbee Hall celebrated the life of Canon Samuel Barnett, our founder.  June the 17th marked the centenary of Canon Barnett’s death, and although his name may not be familiar to many today, it was his original vision which led to the founding of Toynbee Hall – and his legacy that we are building on today.

Over the course of the month we focused on Canon Barnett’s impact in London and across the world; celebrated the central role of volunteers in our work; and brought together a new generation of social pioneers in a panel debate on the 20th of June. We would like to thank our supporters who made a donation or held a tea party to raise vital funds. Explore this section of our website to find out more.
