On 24th November 2014, Toynbee Hall welcomed members from the local community who came to the premiere of four short films and a 'making-of' documentary created as part of the Moving Pictures project.

The project aims to break down the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness and is funded by national charity, Time to Change. A group of volunteers, all with lived experience of mental illness, were recruited, and given training in how to have conversations about mental health and their experiences of mental illness with the general public, how to bust common myths and breakdown some of the stigma that still surrounds mental health conditions.

Groups of people from several local community centres worked together and wrote scripts about mental health stigma and discrimination, four of which were then made into short films by a group of dedicated volunteers. Watch the short film of the premiere event to find out how the launch was received and to hear about how both the filmmakers and the audience felt about the films.

Two more premiere's are scheduled for 2015:
13th January at 7.30pm at Genesis Cinema on Mile End Road
20th January at 7.30pm at Rich Mix on Bethnal Green Road
