Team Toynbee walks 10km to raise money for our Free Legal Advice Centre

Published: 20 May 2015

On Monday (18 May), a group of employees and volunteers from Toynbee Hall took part in the 11th annual London Legal Walk, raising over £2800 for our free legal advice service.

Team Toynbee was one of 550 teams from law firms and legal advice centres participating in the 10km sponsored walk, which took in a number of central London landmarks including Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park.

The walk raises money for legal advice services across the capital including Toynbee Hall’s Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC), the longest running service of its kind in the UK.

Each year we see over 5,000 people, many of whom are in desperate situations with nowhere else to turn. The volunteers who lead our service, ranging from barristers to solicitors, trainee solicitors and law students, give over 4,000 hours of their time each year to help our local community.

In the last year, demand for this service has increased by 92%. And although we run on a very small budget, funding is extremely challenging and last year we had to close one of our evening services due to lack of funds.

As well as the money raised by our staff and volunteers, Allen & Overy, one of our partner law firms is also donating 25% of the money they raised to us. This brings us closer to our overall target of £3,500 for the walk, which could pay for an evening session to remain open for over three months.

All of the money raised will go towards helping people like Sarah build a better, more stable future, for themselves and their families. If you'd like to contribute, it's not too late to donate.
