Capitalise Conference 2016
Published: 1 Mar 2016
On Friday 26th February, member organisations of the Capitalise partnership gathered at Friends House Hospitality in Euston to discuss tackling debt and the future of debt advice.
Capitalise helps 20,000 Londoners each year. With demand for debt advice never higher, the conference focused on the critical issues affecting the future of debt advice. Including; the growing challenges ahead, ensuring our services continue to offer quality support, how we can continue to innovate our approach to debt advice and how we can work with service users to build longer term financial resilience.
The event consisted of a range of talks and workshops. Graham Fisher, Chief Executive of Toynbee Hall, welcomed delegates before, Alex MacDermott, Technical Specialist from Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) gave the keynote address, titled, ‘What’s on the horizon?’ This was followed by other speakers including Caroline Siarkiewicz, Head of The UK Debt Advice Programme, Money Advice Service, and Jahanara Hussain, Innovation and Insight Manager, The Hyde Group Housing Association.
We are delighted that almost 100 staff across all 27 partner organisations attended the conference. For Toynbee Hall, the Capitalise project means we can learn more about debt and the causes of debt and we will use this knowledge and experience to ensure we are helping people as effectively as we can.
