Made it! - 2017 Make it! Graduation

Published: 25 Jul 2017

Our flagship youth project, Make it!, came to a conclusion for this year with a memorable graduation ceremony at Genesis Cinema.

Make it! works with 12-13 year old pupils in secondary schools across East London. We work with schools to identify young people who would benefit from a relationship with an adult to improve their confidence and cultivate critical thinking skills.

The ceremony at Genesis Cinema also premiered a film made with help from Chocolate Films to document the stages of the project and capture the change we’ve seen in the young people this year. The film will be available across our media channels soon.

During the ceremony, young people read out poems they wrote on the theme of identity for our poetry competition, Speak it! with poet and author, Anthony Anaxagorou. Anthony then handed out the certificates to all the graduates in front friends, family, mentors and teachers.

There was even greater cause for celebration this year, as Make it! mentored more young people than ever before, in more schools than ever before and the young people achieved so much in such a short amount of time.

Over the course of the school year, the 48 year students stretched their comfort zones, made new friends, build an outdoor classroom, learnt an array of new practical skills, developed the critical thinking skills to form their own opinions on a range of complex and emotive themes and lead their own project for year 6 pupils.

As Make it! comes to an end for another year, we start to look ahead to our youth programme for next year as we plan to expand and provide more targeted youth work provision in schools and plan a new community project.
