RBS: Local Fundraisers Extraordinaire
Published: 27 Jun 2013
We would like to thank the Global Transactions Services’ team at the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) for their fantastic fundraising effort for Toynbee Hall.
As part of the One Week in June programme, they raised over £1,400 to support our vital work through a range of activities including a quiz night, powerball competition and dress down days. In addition to their fundraising, the team also collected a staggering array of gifts for the older people who use Toynbee Hall’s services, including tinned food, toiletries and cleaning supplies, which have made a practical and positive impact on the lives of people in the local community.
High numbers of older people in Tower Hamlets live below the poverty line, often in isolation, and are more likely to be affected by long-term illness than in other boroughs. We distributed the donated gifts at the Lunch Club at Toynbee Hall and we also visited older people’s homes as part of our outreach work to give some of the items to the most vulnerable people who are unable to attend the Lunch club service.
In their own words:
Anna, LinkAge Plus outreach worker went to distribute some of the items collected to a local sheltered housing block for vulnerable people over 50. She says: “They were all incredibly grateful for the gifts donated by the team at RBS”.
Joan says: “When Agnes of Toynbee Hall walked in with the gifts, I was shocked. It is nice to see that people are thinking about us. Thank you very much.”
Albert says: “Thank you. I am very touched by your generosity and thoughtfulness”.
