About Sainsbury's Local Charity nominations
Over the past five years, Sainsbury's stores have partnered with local charities and raised over £6 million. During May and June Sainsbury's customers nominate their favourite local registered charity. One is selected from the nominations and supported over the next 12 months through fundraising and volunteering.
Every year our customers and colleagues work together to support a local cause at the heart of their community. Fundraising activities, like dressing up and running marathons, help us support some of the country's most vulnerable people.
About Toynbee Hall
Toynbee Hall is a community organisation that pioneers ways to reduce poverty and disadvantage in the East End of London. We give some of the country’s most deprived communities a voice, providing access to free advice and support services and working with them to tackle social injustice.
Tower Hamlets is characterised by high rates of child poverty, worklessness, mortality and overcrowding. The majority of the 10,000 people we worked with in 2012/13 live on very low incomes, have multiple needs, low aspirations or poor health. We work with them to identify the services they need to improve their lives, and provide an opportunity for them to take action on community issues.
